Biography

Brian M. Brown is our senior trial attorney and heads up our firm’s trial practice. Brian dedicates himself exclusively to seeing our most difficult and serious cases through their final stages to a successful verdict.

Some of Mr. Brown’s most recent victories include:

  • $140,000,000 settlement and served as co-lead counsel in arbitration award to 255 victims of medical negligence
  • $4,275,000 settlement for a union cement mason who injured his back and neck when he fell through a scaffold
  • $2,250,000 verdict for a union carpenter who suffered multiple foot fractures while unloading materials on a job site
  • $3,250,000 settlement for a Union Construction Worker. Plaintiff suffered a fractured ankle when he fell from a ladder. Plaintiff won summary judgment in the Appellate Division for the 1st Department, and this case settled in the midst of a lengthy trial in the Bronx County Supreme Court.
  • $7,944,326 jury verdict in a complex medical malpractice trial that took five weeks to complete. The client was a young child with developmental delays, and the claim was that the delays were caused by the malpractice of the defendant's doctors. The defendant made no settlement offer before or during the trial and took a “no-pay” position.
  • $6,000,000 settlement at the start of Jury Selection in a complex malpractice case involving multiple defendants
  • $5,700,000 jury verdict in a pressure ulcer case (thought to be a record total for this type of injury)
  • $3,500,000 settlement on the eve of trial in a neurologically damaged infant case
  • $3,300,000 settlement during a three week trial in a case where the defendant failed to respond within a timely manner to the signs and symptoms of a stroke
  • $3,500,000 for a client who suffered serious spinal cord injuries leading to partial tetraplegia after a tractor-trailer accident
  • $2,400,000 jury verdict in a medical malpractice case involving the wrongful death of a psychiatric patient who was prematurely discharged from the hospital
  • $2,007,500 settlement after obtaining a liability verdict for the wrongful death of an elderly person who fell and suffered an intracranial brain injury due to the negligence of a well-known NYC landlord and commercial real estate developer
  • $1,500,000 settlement during the second week of trial in a case in Richmond County where the claim was the defendant's failure to diagnose and treat a stroke

Brown was recognized for seven years running by his peers as one of New York’s top trial attorneys with his selection to Super Lawyers and was featured multiple times in New York Magazine’s annual list of Top Personal Injury Litigators. A number of his cases were featured in the New York Law Journal’s annual Top Verdicts and Top Settlements publications. Mr. Brown was selected for inclusion and serves on the New York County Supreme Court Advisory Committee for Medical Malpractice and is a member of the New York County Democratic Party’s Judicial Screening Committee as the designee of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the American Association for Justice.

Brown earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Davidson College. While at Davidson, Mr. Brown was a three-time selection to the Southern Conference All-Academic team in football. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor degree from the Fordham University School of Law. While at Fordham, Mr. Brown was on the Dean’s List and served as President of the Fordham Irish-American Law Students Association.

Brown was admitted to the New York State Bar and subsequently was admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and began his career as a litigator handling complex products liability, toxic tort, and pharmaceutical and medical malpractice litigation at a high-end litigation boutique firm in Manhattan. While at the firm, Brown handled all aspects of litigation related to industrial machinery accidents, Vioxx litigation, and catastrophic medical malpractice cases, including cases involving Erb’s Palsy and neurologically damaged babies. During his tenure, Brown obtained millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts for his clients.

Brown then transferred his practice to the New York office of a large international litigation firm. While at this firm, Brown concentrated his practice in the areas of medical malpractice and professional liability, representing the interests of hospitals, physicians, and legal and accounting professionals. He also represented various corporate defendants in products liability litigation.

Although Brown’s work earned him a reputation as an aggressive and relentless litigator, he cares deeply for his clients and approaches each case with passion and precision. Mr. Brown gets the maximum possible recovery for his clients due to his willingness to see each case through to the very end and never backing down or settling for less.
